Homestand highlights May 12-22

The Cardinals have had a rough road trip, hovering at .500.  They were almost swept by the Pirates.  But now, home sweet home!  And the Cards play the Cubs, who haven’t been playing so well themselves.  Let’s hope this homestand will turn things around.  Here’s all the details on all the events going on during this homestand:

<p id=ST. LOUIS, MO (May 12, 2014) – The Cardinals are back at Busch and embarking on the first of 19 home games in 23 days over two homestands. The action starts tonight with four games versus the Chicago Cubs, and continues with three-game series against the Atlanta Braves and Arizona Diamondbacks. 2014 All-Star Game balloting begins in-stadium during this jam-packed homestand which is highlighted by six theme nights (including two Scout Nights, Mo Tie Monday, Grant’s Farm Night, Chuck Berry Night and Gardening Night), the Replica 2013 National League Champion’s Trophy giveaway, the Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog-Eating Contest, and more.

Monday, May 12, 2014 — Cardinals vs. Chicago Cubs (7:10 p.m.)

  • In-stadium All-Star Balloting Begins: Ready to #VoteSTL? Ballots for the 2014 All-Star Game are now available inside Busch Stadium. Online voting is also underway at cardinals.com/vote, and fans can vote a total of 25 times online and from mobile devices until Thursday, July 3rd at 11:59 p.m. (EDT). Send your favorite Cardinal players to the 2014 MLB All-Star Game in Minnesota by joining the conversation (#VoteSTL) and voting for Matt Adams (#BatAdams), Peter Bourjos (#BourjosForUs), Matt Carpenter (#CarpenterSkills), Allen Craig (#AllStarAllen), Matt Holliday (#HollidayIn), Yadier Molina (#YadiYadiYadi), Jhonny Peralta (#JhonnyBeGood) and Kolten Wong (#VoteInKolten).
  •  Ceremonial Pitches: Prior to the game, ceremonial pitches will be thrown by former Rams player and Professional Football Hall of Famer Aeneas Williams; Miss Missouri 2014 Erica Sturdefant; and Koko Kondo, a Hiroshima A-bomb survivor, peace advocate and Webster University commencement speaker.
  • Mo Tie Monday’ Theme Tickets: Fans can dress as sharply as General Manager John Mozeliak with the purchase of a themed ticket for the first-ever Mo Tie Monday. Each special Mo Tie Monday ticket comes with a limited-edition Cardinals bowtie. A portion of each ticket sold benefits Cardinals Care. Fans may also purchase a VIP ticket which includes the game ticket, bowtie and a pre-game Q&A with Mozeliak, starting with a bowtie-tying tutorial. Tickets may be purchased online at cardinals.com/theme. Please note that the bowtie is only available with the purchase of the Theme Night ticket.   • Television Broadcast:Tonight’s game will be broadcast on both FOX Sports Midwest and to a national audience on ESPN.
  • Boy/Girl Scout Theme Night: The Cardinals are proud to present Boy Scout and Girl Scout Night at Busch Stadium. For just $14, each scout receives a ticket to the game as well as a badge. While tickets for this Theme Night are sold out, fans may purchase tickets for a second Scout Night on May 20th at cardinals.com/theme.   • MLBPAA Auction: The Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association will conduct a baseball-themed silent auction inside Gate 3, Gate 1, UMB Champions Club, and the Cardinals Club from the time gates open through the seventh inning. All proceeds will benefit Cardinals Care and the Players Alumni Association, a non-profit group that strives to preserve the game of baseball while supporting a variety of charities.

Tuesday, May 13, 2014 — Cardinals vs. Chicago Cubs (7:15 p.m.)

  • Battle at Busch: Busch Stadium is proud to host the Battle at Busch in conjunction with Mozingo Music and 105.7 The Point. The 2013 schedule features 15 local bands over the course of five nights, at five different Cardinals’ home games out in Ford Plaza. Tonight’s battle features Cardboard Room, SOMA, and Unifyah. Bands begin performing 20 minutes after the gates open with each act given 20 minutes to perform. Each band will be judged on a point system by Mozingo Music and 105.7 The Point. The top three scoring bands of the summer will be invited back to play on September 16th in the “Battle at Busch” finals for the grand prize package.   • Jackie Robinson Jersey Raffle: The Cardinals and On the Run are giving fans the chance to win an authentic #42 game-worn autographed jersey from Jackie Robinson Day, on April 15th and two Cardinals tickets to the July 18th home game vs. the Los Angeles Dodgers. Fans can purchase raffle tickets at Gate 3 or from roaming volunteers in lime-green shirts during this game as well as on May 16th and May 20th. Raffle tickets can also be purchased at area On the Run locations. The money raised will go to the Jackie Robinson Foundation & Cardinals Care.
  • Cardinals Care Stadium Auction: Fans have the unique opportunity to bid on exclusive autographed Cardinals memorabilia at the game. The auction is a great way for fans and collectors alike to obtain specialty Cardinals items while helping support the programs that Cardinals Care provides to youth in the community. The auction tables will be located at Gate 3, Gate 1, Cardinals Club, UMB Champions Club, and in the Redbird Club.

Wednesday, May 14, 2014 — Cardinals vs. Chicago Cubs (7:15 p.m.)

  • Grant’s Farm Theme Night: The Cardinals are celebrating the 60th anniversary of Grant’s Farm – Anheuser Busch’s nationally recognized family attraction and St. Louis tradition. Each special Grant’s Farm Night ticket comes with a limited-edition Cardinals camel t-shirt for the event’s “Hump Day” festivities. Prior to the game, fans will have the opportunity to see a variety of small animals and have their picture taken with a Budweiser Clydesdale in Ford Plaza. Fans can even see three camels in the Busch II infield at Ballpark Village before the game. Grant’s Farm’s newly refurbished tram will take a lap around the warning track at approximately 6:30 p.m. before former Cardinal Wally Moon throws out the ceremonial pitch.   • Ceremonial Pitch: Gata Kamsky, an International Grandmaster from Russia, 20-year world elite chess player, and the reigning U.S. Chess Champion will throw the ceremonial pitch.

  • Charity Haircuts in the Plaza sponsored by Great Clips: During the game, fans can root on their team and shape up their roots with a visit to Ford Plaza for Great Clips’ Charity Haircuts. For a $10 donation, Great Clips – who sponsors the event every weekday afternoon game during the season – will cut your hair and donate all proceeds to Cardinals Care.

 Friday, May 16, 2014 — Cardinals vs. Atlanta Braves (7:15 p.m.)

  • Budweiser Bash Friday: Enjoy music and autographs in Ford Plaza beginning at 5:15 p.m. The first 200 fans to line up at the Budweiser Bash entrance (Gate 5) will be given guaranteed autograph line tickets for former Cardinals pitcher turned outfielder, Rick Ankiel, who will begin signing at 5:30 p.m. Only fans with autograph tickets will receive an autograph. Autograph ticket distribution begins one hour prior to gates opening. Budweiser Bash Fridays are sponsored by Budweiser Beer. (#BudBash)

Saturday, May 17, 2014 — Cardinals vs. Atlanta Braves (1:15 p.m.)

  • Cardinals Care Jersey Day: All fans can purchase scratch-off tickets from roaming volunteers for a chance to win a game-used Cardinals jersey from today’s game. Proceeds benefit Cardinals Care.
  • Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog-Eating Contest: Nathan’s Famous is making a stop at Busch Stadium for an official 2014 qualifying event for the annual Fourth of July International Hot Dog-Eating Contest in Coney Island. The official qualifying event will take place at 12 p.m. on May 17 and is part of more than a dozen contests in cities across the United States. World champion Joey Chestnut will be on hand to oversee the 10-minute, all-you-can-eat contest, which will take place around noon in Ford Plaza and feature top-ranked eaters, including world matzo ball, donut and green pea-eating champion, “Badlands” Booker, as well as Sean Gordon, Matthew Raible and Josh Miller. Joey Chestnut will also throw out the ceremonial first pitch before the game. The top male and top female finishers will earn a spot to compete in the finals at the original Nathan’s Famous in Brooklyn, NY. Joey Chestnut of San Jose, Calif., set the world record by eating 69 Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs and Buns in 10 minutes in 2013, and he will seek his eighth straight title this year. Along with Joey Chestnut, a group of students from Keysor Elementary School and their principal, Dr. Bryan Painter, will be attending the game. The school and surrounding Kirkwood community were honored with a fun, carnival-like event in Ford Plaza before noon as part of Nathan’s and KaBOOM!’s new program, Ready. Set.
